Father James McDonagh has been parish priest of Ballymote for a number of years, combining his deep love of traditional music with his faith.

A County Sligo native, Fr McDonagh comes from a highly musical family from the nearby village of Bunnanadden. It was here that we met up with the popular priest for a special evening of music and song, featuring members of his own family.

Set in the heart of the community, this Rambling House took place in The Miller’s Inn, the only pub in the village — a fitting setting for a night that celebrates tradition, family, and the enduring spirit of Irish music.

This ambitious new walking and pilgrimage route spans approximately 500 kilometres, following some of Ireland’s most ancient paths as it journeys from Downpatrick in County Down to Croagh Patrick in County Mayo. Rathcroghan — the ancient capital of Connacht and a site deeply rooted in Irish mythology and archaeology — provided a fitting setting for the official launch.
